Caribbean Conference Will Focus on Net Betting

Internet gaming, always a hot issue in the Caribbean (home to a majority of an estimated 850-plus gaming sites worldwide), will be spotlighted during this month's Caribbean Gaming & Tourism Conference 2000.

"Internet gaming is a reality, and money is passing hands," explained show presenter Bruce Smith, president of WestVille Enterprises, Inc.

The event's Opening General Session will feature Gary Collins, chairman of the Antigua Gaming Commission and Sue Schneider, CEO of The River City Group and chairman of the Interactive Gaming Council.

"Our Opening General Session will separate fact from fiction and discuss how much money is being wagered, what new jurisdictions are waiting to go online, and what the growth outlook is for the next 3-5 years," Smith added.

The event, running June 27 - 29 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, will feature 24 concurrent sessions covering a wide range of topics, including cashless gaming, customer care, casino crime, and gaming as entertainment.

Additionally, the region's first Security Operations Institute, a certificate program for security and surveillance professionals, will run June 26-29 under the direction of D. Anthony Nichter, ARM, CPP, CDTI, CCPI. Nichter is an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas and Academic Advisor to the American Hotel & Motel Association. Institute enrollees may also attend the CGTC 2000 exhibits, scheduled meal functions and networking events.
