LAS VEGAS -- (Press Release) --Global Gaming Business magazine today announced that Gary Loveman, the President and CEO of Harrah's Entertainment, would be a Keynote Speaker at Racino 2002. The conference will be held at Dover Downs Hotel & Conference Center, in Dover, Delaware, on November 6-8, 2002. Racino 2002 is the first conference to concentrate on the synergies between the racing and gaming industries.
"Gary Loveman is one of the most innovative and exciting executives in the gaming industry," said Paul Dworin, Publisher, Global Gaming Business. "Harrah's has recently purchased a racetrack in Louisiana and has interests in other racing businesses, so we believe Gary is the perfect speaker to examine the unique relationship between the racing and gaming industries."
Racino 2002 will be particularly timely because the November elections will take place two days prior to the conference. The results of the elections will determine the viability of racinos in many states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Massachusetts.
Loveman joined Harrah's as president and chief operating officer in May 1998. He was appointed chief executive officer in September 2002. Before joining Harrah's, Loveman was associate professor of business administration at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration where he taught service management in M.B.A. and executive programs. He worked for Harrah's for the preceding five years helping to design and execute its executive development and education programs and for two years was a consultant on the company's business strategy. Loveman was the first recipient of Harvard Business School's Apgar Award for Excellence and Innovation Teaching. He has authored three books, numerous scholarly papers, and five articles for the Harvard Business Review.
Attendees of Racino 2002 will actually see a racino in operation at Dover Downs. A welcome reception on November 6 will allow attendees to witness the harness races and the slots are in operation until 4 a.m. each day. Other keynote speakers at Racino 2002 include Denis McGlynn, CEO of Dover Downs Entertainment, the owner of Dover Downs Racetrack; Donald Snyder, President of Boyd Gaming Corporation, which operates Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino in Vinton, Louisiana; and Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., the President and CEO of the American Gaming Association, who will discuss the need for all segments of the gaming industry to address the issue of responsible gaming.
Racino 2002 will be sponsored by Jefferies & Company, Inc., the principal operating subsidiary of Jefferies Group, Inc. and one of the nation's premier investment banks and institutional securities firms.
Other sponsors of Racino 2002 include International Game Technology, the Innovation Group, Cummings Associates and Rafferty & Associates.
The two-day program features seminars covering a variety of topics relating to racinos, including sessions on slot operations, legislative strategies, the amalgamation of racing and gaming operations, the effect on the racing business, non-slot alternatives for racetracks, marketing slots and racing, the international perspective and more.
