NEW YORK, N.Y. – (Press Release) — Founder and former president of the World Sports Exchange (www.wsex.com) Jay Cohen will speak out for the first time since his indictment and conviction for running an Internet gambling business at the World Internet Gaming Summit, to be held March 15-16 in Miami at the Wyndham Miami Beach Resort.
In "Jay Cohen Unplugged" Cohen promises a no-holds-barred session, with highlights including the origins and status of his legal battle, what he calls the "hypocrisy" of the U.S. government, the status of the industry, and new ideas for the future of offshore Internet gaming. Cohen says that he has specifically chosen the Summit at which to appear because of the high quality of the speakers and the event.
Cohen has long been the most visible figure in the industry. In a closely watched case that raised questions regarding the nature of electronic commerce and international law, he was one of 21 owners and managers of nine offshore companies named in a series of indictments that charged the defendants with illegally using interstate telephone lines to take online wagers from U.S. customers.
Cohen was sentenced to 21 months in prison and fined $5,000 for accepting American wagers on sporting events through World Sports Exchange, which is based in Antigua. He is currently appealing the verdict.
Gaming leaders from around the globe will be gathering at the World Internet Gaming Summit, including experts from North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, South Africa, and the Caribbean.
