Latin American Gaming Association Partners with Global Gaming Expo

16 May 2001

NORWALK, Connecticut – (Press Release) -- May 16, 2001 – Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the gaming industry's premier trade event and conference, announced a strategic partnership with the Asociacion Latinoamericana de Juegos de Azar (ALAJA), a nonprofit trade organization representing the Latin American casino operators as well as bingo parlors and lotteries. This collaboration further strengthens the global mix of participants at G2E, scheduled to debut Oct. 1-3, 2001, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, by ensuring that the Latin American gaming industry is fully represented.

``With the advent of democracy in more Latin American countries and the increasing sophistication of business, our gaming industry faces a bright future,' said Martin Canepa, president of ALAJA. ``G2E presents numerous opportunities for our members to reach across borders and build important global partnerships.'

``From the start, we told the international gaming community that G2E would offer a global gaming marketplace with a level playing field.' said Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of the American Gaming Association (AGA), G2E's organizer. ``With the support of ALAJA, the region's foremost gaming industry association, and key Latin American operators and suppliers, we are keeping our promise.'

In addition to its partnership with ALAJA, G2E and the ninth South American Gaming Suppliers Expo (SAGSE) have agreed to cross-promote their shows via a hyperlink between their respective Web sites, ads in each organization's show directory, and booth representation by both groups at each other's shows.

The more than 275 companies exhibiting at G2E are the ``Who's Who' of the gaming industry worldwide. South American exhibitors include Copag da Amazonia, SA, based in Brazil; John Huxley, with offices in Venezuela; and Mikohn and Shuffle Master, both with offices in Argentina.

G2E will offer educational programs designed to reflect and appeal to these companies' international interests. Speakers will provide insight on gaming legalization in the Latin market, pinpoint growth areas, examine regulatory structures, and evaluate prospects for gaming in Mexico and Cuba.

Other G2E partners are the European Gaming Organization (EGO), Europe's only official gaming association, and the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM), representing leading gaming device and equipment makers in the United States.

G2E's sponsoring publications represent a multicultural world view, with independent editorial voices and loyal readers. They include Big Game (Russia); Casino International (UK); Casinos de Latinoamerica (Spain); Casino World (UK); Games Magazine (Brazil); Gaming Industry Observer (US); GamingToday (US); Indian Gaming Magazine (US); Juegos & Negocios (Argentina); and Native American Casino (US).

ALAJA seeks to unify Latin America's gaming industry, develop gaming employment and investments, increase industry participation in writing relevant laws, publicize gaming to the public and private sectors and eliminate illegal operators.

Reed Exhibition, G2E's show management partner, is the world leader in bringing buyers and suppliers together at more than 400 trade and consumer events in 27 countries and nearly 50 industries. The company is a member of the Reed Elsevier plc group, a world-leading business and information provider.
